EU Parliament plans to monitor Bitcoin users

Members of the European Parliament have published a position paper showing how they want to regulate digital currencies.

The position paper was published on March 9th. This discloses details aimed at empowering the supervisory authorities in the European Union to record more data from users of the digital currencies. Specifically, databases are to be created that link the Wallet addresses with personal data.

Parliamentarians said that "virtual currencies should not be anonymous". In addition, the draft provides, provided that this is adopted, that the user information is also exchanged among the national authorities.

So it is said:

"In order to counter the risks associated with anonymity, national financial authorities are to collect the addresses of the digital monetary owners and link them with the personal data. In addition, users should be encouraged to provide their data on a voluntary basis to the authorities. "

More than a year ago, the European Commission has already asked to develop measures that take digital currencies into account in anti-money laundering legislation. Also, a task force was established a year ago, which deals with the technical aspects of technology.
